A week of Flesh and Steel

It's my second week working on the Blood of the Bull warband (and Armand Callis too) and I felt like I wanted to give myself a little bit more direction than just randomly throwing paint on minis which the first week made me feel like I was doing.

Therefore, this week, I decided to focus on two things: getting the skin put on and then ensuring that all of the metallics were applied. Not a tremendously big task I felt.

However, I had to start with cleaning up from the previous week, which saw me having to correct a mistake regarding Armand Callis' Armour as well as touch up bit of Balthazar Gold that I had missed.

So, that's where I started. Beginning with the Callis, I applied the Leadbelcher, Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, Leadbelcher (as a Drybrush) andIronbreaker (also as a Drybrush) in the exact same manner as last week on his leg guards. Then went the Balthazar Gold, which covered the missed parts of the Chaos Dwarfs' Armour.

Now, we made it to the new stuff, where I started with Mechanicus Standard Grey, purely to get most of Callis' base up to snuff, before I moved onto the skins, with Catachan Fleshtone and Rakarth Flesh being split 2:3 across the five fleshless minis (while the former also doubled up as dirt all over Callis' cobblestone base.

Next came a slight divergence as while I applied Zandri Dust sparingly for the Blood of the Bull minis' dirty teeth, I realised that the Armand Callis base was not only meant to be a cobblestone road, but also had a gutter with small rings which I assumed were meant to be water ripples. With that I decided to give the road a puddle by covering this gutter area with Drakenhof Nightshade, which I hope at the end will give it an almost dirty water look.

So, now we came to the main event as the metallics were applied. First was Runelord Brass, which I used as the trim for the Dwarven Armour, which worked nicely against the Balthasar Gold. Then went the Retributor Armour, which was placed mostly on the weaponry as a nice contrast against the Leadbelcher, although small touches were also added to the Armour.

By the end, I have to say that I'm happy with the end result. All of these minis are really starting to come along, particularly the Blood of the Bull.

Next week, I'm going to change tack again and instead focus on getting the bases done for the this warband, because I've had an interesting idea ...
