My failed Underworlds experiment
Earlier today, I finished painting the Crimson Court, my fourth Warhammer Underworlds warband and, as I looked at the finished article, I wondered if I'd ever use them.
During early 2025, I purchased the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds' Embergard box set as well as the Revenant of the Realm warbands box set. The reason for the latter was to own the Crimson Court warband (which I consider a gorgeous set of minis), while the former was to have a Warhammer game to play with my kids (because I found it generally difficult to play generally).
And, initially, it did seem to do the job because my eldest showed some interest in playing at least a toned down version (no cards or warscrolls). Unfortunately, he did have a bad habit of altering the rules further (which bothered me) but at least he continued to show an interest.
In fact, so optimistic did this make me that, over the recent Christmas period, I acquired the Spitewood expansion and the Seekers in Shadow box set, to offer a little more variety (and because so many of the warbands looked awesome).
However, it now seems that my optimism was premature because in the last 5-6 weeks, interest has not so much wanted as it has dropped to the ground like a stone.
It's not all bad because I now have an additional 6 great looking warbands to paint, but it saddens me that this game which had so much promise with my kids (well, my oldest), but seemed to fail so quickly.
Hopefully, I can come another use for this game and it'si mnis. For now though, I guess it'll just have to gather dust.
